Teaching is learning and I have enjoyed learning for over 30 years now. People often say that teaching is in my blood and in some ways it is. My mother was a librarian in a junior high school for many years. My grandmother was also a librarian.
My career started in an elementary classroom filled with children with hearing impairments. These children taught me a lot, as all of my students have, about learning. From that classroom I moved into classrooms in junior high and high schools. During these years I was hired to begin a multiligual program for students who are hearing impaired. From the classroom I moved into administration. My experiences in these roles were in schools, districts, and state departments. My favorite part of administration was the ability to be in numerous classrooms and work with teachers. When I found a home here in Virginia I returned to the classroom. The job of Reading Specialist has given me the opportunity again to work with students and teachers throughout the school. Our school district is moving toward advancing literacy in our schools. I look forward to working with students and teachers as we continue to develop literacy learning in our school. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||
